On Thursday and Friday, May 30th and 31st, grade 8 students from King George, Sunningdale, Gravelbourg, Caronport, Mankota, Lafleche, and Rockglen had the opportunity to compete in Prairie South’s Cardboard Boat Races 2019.
Armed with cardboard, duct tape and a few other odds and end, these students used their skills and ingenuity to transform these materials into a vessel for the water. Not only did the boats need to be quick, they had to be capable of carrying passengers as well. The student learning outcomes, were to design and construct a boat with only the supplied materials in two hours. During the challenge the students needed to complete the task of researching and coming up with their own design (in the classroom), look at principal structure, rigidity, water displacement, propulsion, buoyancy, adhesives and bonding, teamwork, and FUN!
Prairie South would like to thank the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Sportsplex staff for the use of the facilities and to Culligan Water Conditioning for their donation of water for the days events.
